{"id":27163,"date":"2016-05-03T10:15:56","date_gmt":"2016-05-03T15:15:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/simfoni.com\/?p=27163"},"modified":"2025-02-10T08:48:06","modified_gmt":"2025-02-10T13:48:06","slug":"tail-spend-management-procurement-professionals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/simfoni.com\/tail-spend-management\/tail-spend-management-procurement-professionals\/","title":{"rendered":"Better Tail Spend Management is a Clear Priority Among Procurement Professionals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In a previous post, we looked at a study undertaken by The Hackett Group, titled: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehackettgroup.com\/research\/2016\/key16pr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-cke-saved-href=\"http:\/\/www.thehackettgroup.com\/research\/2016\/key16pr\/\">The CPO Agenda: Reduce Purchase Costs, Improve <span class=\"\" data-mobile-support=\"0\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]' tabindex=\"0\" role=\"link\">Agility<\/span>, and Become a Trusted Advisor<\/a>, by Patrick Connaughton and Christopher Sawchuk.<\/p>\n<p>This time around, we are revisiting the study from a slightly different angle and also looking at an online article published recently in CSCMP&rsquo;s Supply Chain Quarterly titled, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.supplychainquarterly.com\/articles\/20160419-nows-the-time-to-manage-tail-spend\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-cke-saved-href=\"http:\/\/www.supplychainquarterly.com\/articles\/20160419-nows-the-time-to-manage-tail-spend\/\"><em>Now&rsquo;s the time to manage &ldquo;<span class=\"\" data-mobile-support=\"0\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]' tabindex=\"0\" role=\"link\">tail spend<\/span>&rdquo;<\/em><\/a><em>,<\/em> by Susan Avery.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the process of putting <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehackettgroup.com\/research\/2016\/key16pr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-cke-saved-href=\"http:\/\/www.thehackettgroup.com\/research\/2016\/key16pr\/\">the study<\/a> together, The Hackett Group surveyed a large and diverse group of <a href=\"https:\/\/simfoni.com\/procurement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>procurement<\/strong><\/a> professionals.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the survey, 180 leading <a href=\"https:\/\/simfoni.com\/procurement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>procurement<\/strong><\/a> specialists from influential companies were asked to list the priorities for their <a href=\"https:\/\/simfoni.com\/procurement\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Procurement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">procurement<\/a> departments for the year ahead. Three key areas emerged as the leading priorities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Reduce and avoid unnecessary costs &ndash; 85%<\/li>\n<li>Elevate the role of the procurement team to that of a trusted advisor &ndash; 81%<\/li>\n<li>Increase the influence of company spend &ndash; 76%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Interestingly, <a href=\"https:\/\/simfoni.com\/cost-reduction\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"17\" title=\"Cost Reduction\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"\" data-mobile-support=\"0\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]' tabindex=\"0\" role=\"link\">cost reduction<\/span><\/a> has risen from second place last year to top of the list this year.
